FINALLY! After a few weeks of frustration, horrible line work and trying to get used to my new Wacom Bamboo (and digital drawing in general) I've finally completed my first successful set of lines drawn on a computer using a tablet! WOOT is me!
Here's a character I originally created back in 2004. Her name is Rosalynn from Puerto Rico. ....AAAANNND, I've actually got no more details than that. lol. I made only 2 drawings based on her before this and this one is a redo of the 2nd one. I'll be submitting the old one later for comparison and for some shiggles. Let me tell you, it is a MASSIVE improvement over the old drawing. hehehe. As far as the character design itself, not to sound like a ego-maniac or anything but, I think she looks quite stunning. I'm actually quite proud of her design.
I couldn't believe that I made this drawing when I finished.

This one took me a long time because I did a lot of erasing and redrawing to further develop my style. I'm going for a semi-realistic look now instead of the simplified, anime-ish style I had when I was younger. I believe this change is also a representation of myself, of how much I've changed from being a kid to a respectable adult. Being more mature myself I should represent a more mature style. That's my logic, at least. uh... Yeah, I'm weird... I know.
Anyway, I did a lot of studying by dissecting the works of many amazing artists. In the end, I found myself endlessly gawking at the galleries of Stanley Lau Artgerm.deviantart.com, Robert Porter robaato.deviantart.com/, and Caleb Thomas dctb.deviantart.com/. That was the look I 'm going for. I also explained to my wife the look I was going for and she introduced me to one of her favorite manga, Angel Heart by Tsukasa Hojo and I actually fell in love with his style. He also has great fashion taste for his characters. Maybe I should start studying some fashion sites or magazines. Something I've got to work on. So yeah, what you see here is the beginning of "my style" which I will hopefully be improving upon in the future.
Here's the WIP sketch. You will notice the big changes I made to it throughout this process which i think substantially improved it. I think....
I'll be continuing to work on lineart and getting really comfortable with it first before I start painting, but I WILL be painting this one.
P.S. that hand!! I think that's the first time I've drawn a hand in, what I call, a complicated position and come out looking good!! I suck at drawing hands and feet if you couldn't tell...
----------------------------------
Here is my progress on this piece so far. Redid a few things on the lines. Gave her hair much more detail. I also decided to have her barefoot instead of her wearing flats. It gives me an opportunity to practice drawing feet at two different angles. I'm actually quite satisfied with the feet. Sure, they could be significantly better, but It's a good start, methinks. I SUCK royally at drawing feet, so I need all the practice I can get.
So here are the flats AAAAAAND... I'm stuck. I've been stuck here all night, damnit! I'm still getting used to the paint and color system in SBP 6. Actually, I'm trying to get used to painting digitally, PERIOD. Colors have never been my forte. I'm trying to get a softer feel by using the airbrush or a soft brush, but I just can't get it so far. I've been trying all kinds of settings, but haven't found anything that I like. I REALLY don't want to do Cel-shading like I used to when I was younger. I just don't think it fits this character or my style anymore. Meh, I'll keep trying when I come back from work later today. I'll have to study what I can and see if I make some sort of break-thru. The sad thing is that a lot of people don't use Sketchbook Pro for painting. I've seen people using SAI or Painter but I want to stick to one program for everything. There are some people who've come up with great stuff using just this program, so it IS possible, I just need to find out how. I'm gonna step away from this for a few hours, clear my head, and come back to it later.
Also... I just noticed that her right ankle looks swollen. Damn it, I'll really have to fix that later, or it'll bug the hell out of me forever.

Devious Journal Entry
I managed to respark my interest in drawing after almost 5 years when I tried out and then bought Autodesk's SketchBook Pro on my iPad.
I managed to get this out of that sudden urge:

Then I thought, hmmm, this is not SO bad, I guess... so I tried some more:

During my first sketches, my proportions were so horribly off and erased so much that I thought I'd burn a hole through my iPad screen from all the erasing I had to do. It's good I wasn't using paper then. Now that I've got the rust out of my hand, somewhat, I decided to get something I've wanted for many years, but decided not to bec
One hiatus after another.
My God, It's been a long time since I've updated. I also just noticed that I've been on this site for 5 years. yay me... anyways, I've been quite busy these last few years, not just in photo but with life in general.
January 2008, I moved out of my parents house and moved to Torrance, CA, which is about 10-ish minutes south of L.A.
In June of that year, I married my long-time girlfriend Kae. No, no kids yet!! That comes later later, but not right now, right now.
Her and I then went on a nice roadtrip to San Francisco, it was both of our first times there, had a great time, then went to Yosemite National Park.
In April 2009, we got enough
Back
ok, it's been a while since I updated this thing. I should have some new stuff up soon. So yea.
Only big news I have is that I bought a Canon 30D!! ;D It is my first Digital SLR camera and I'm totally stoked about it. Still getting used to it but I'm getting the hang of it. I'm still figuring out how it behaves in different conditions. So much more flexible. It's so awesome. I decided to retire my little silver PowerShot S2 IS. I'm getting dead pixels (I think). It served me well for 2 years of extensive use. It's not dead though. I'm still using it for regular stuff, but of course not for jobs.
One day a guy in class asked me, the "questi
Troubles
well, for those of you who actually watch this, I'm going to postpone all my submissions. Some Sasser worm killed my laptop a couple of days ago and i just resuscitated it after some heavy work. I'm glad that my laptop is ok now, but the downside of it all is that i lost all my work that i hadn't backed up including all the photos i was about to submit. That was like 2-3 months' worth. stupid me, yea? Everything else (2-3 years worth) was spared because it was backed up to my external HD. On the upside again, the lost images were only digitally lost. The orignals are film and i have the prints. So all i need to do is rescan them. So now, i'm
